Welcome Aboard @STATE Welcome Aboard is an amazing weekend of events planned for the beginning of each school year. It is completely planned by the Residence Hall Association President during the summer and put into action by the RHA Council when residents move back into the halls. Every year, events and activities are carefully selected to meet the needs of the residents and suit the changing campus and community. It is a fun and exciting program to kick off the school year. Residents are both entertained and educated at each event. They learn more about the residential, University, and San Diego communities they are joining by moving into the residence halls. They meet other residents and start forming new friendships. They are introduced to a variety of opportunities for leadership and involvement. Activities begin as soon as the halls open, and continue until classes start. Past events have included trips to the Mission Bay Aquatic Center, Dive-In Movies, Boxer Bingo at the Aztec Recreation Center, bus tours of San Diego, a San Diego Padres baseball game, and community building within each residence hall. For this years activities visit the Events section. COMMUNITY SERVICE RHA not only puts on programs with the residents, but we do a variety of community service events throughout the year. Two of the main community service events that RHA does are semesterly blood drives and the San Diego AIDS walk. Every semester, RHA sponsors a blood drive with the San Diego American Red Cross, providing residents and all SDSU students and staff the convenient opportunity to donate blood. Also, every year RHA rallies residents in the fight against AIDS by participating in the annual San Diego AIDS Walk at Balboa Park. CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT RHA is also very involved with the SDSU campus. Every semester, Cultural Arts and Special Events (CASE), sponsors SDSU's Homecoming Week in the fall and Spring Fiesta in the spring. For each of these events RHA participates in competitions with other SDSU organizations throughout the week. The organization that earns the most points at the end of the week receives recognition in the form of a trophy. We are going for 1st this year with the help of the residents! LEADERSHIP CONFERENCES Every semester RHA hosts a leadership conference for Hall Council’s, RA’s, and RHA to attend to. The conferences have a theme that ties together all the activities that are done with the people who attend the conferences. Often, there are guest speakers that assist in leading conference activities. Those who attend leave with a better understanding of how to be a leader in their own communities. ATTEND CONFERENCES Every Fall semester a group of residents attend the regional PACURH conference where RHA councils from Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Hawaii, and Alaska all meet together at a host school to partake in a weekend full of fun. Those at this conference attend different workshops to learn what programs other schools in the PACURH region are doing and to develop leadership skills. Attendees show their school spirit through costumes, cheers, and energetic attitudes, making the entire experience both educational and fun! This semester the conference is hosted at San Jose State University. At the end of every Spring semester a group of residents attend the national NACURH conference where each region, including PACURH, meets together at a host school for an exciting weekend. This conference is very similar to the PACURH conference except that schools from all over the United States attend.
