Torrey Pines State Reserve Hike
Printer Friendly
Address: 12600 N Torrey Pines Rd La Jolla (Google Maps View)
Directions: Torrey Pines State Reserve is located between La Jolla and Del Mar, California, north of San Diego. From Hwy 5, exit on Carmel Valley Road and drive west for about 1.5 miles till you reach the Coast Highway 101. Turn left and proceed along the beach for about a mile. The park entrance is on your right just before the highway begins to climb the Torrey Pines grade. You can park by the beach for free and just walk up or pay $6 to park at the top or in the lot. I recommend walking up.

This is one of my favorite places to go to get some exercise and enjoy breathtaking views. Bring a camera because there is so many things, big and small, to take pictures of. You will not be disappointed.

There are many trails you can take once you get to the top. Each is unique with different views. Check out the pictures for views at different trails. There is 8 miles of trails if you really wanted to go on each of them. You can get very close to cliffs but be careful and stay on trails. There are tons of different wild flowers. I have some of them pictured to the left.

There are guided trails given by volunteers on weekends and holidays. I haven't taken one but I am sure it would give further insight but probably move slow. The trails are very nice but you may want to wear pants in a few spots. You can jog if you want more exercise.

Overall it is a great place to go that has it all. Maybe take a hike there instead of a trip to the gym one day. If you have questions ask RHA.

Tip 1 Bring a camara and take some amazing pictures and share!
Tip 2 Go here to relax and get away. Weekends are busier but still very nice. It is a large place.
Tip 3 If you are a jogger you can get a good workout while enjoying Torrey Pines. There are some good hills or you can run along the beach. Trails are sometimes narrow so be careful if you are jogging on the trails.
