You might have heard of the magnificent beaches in La Jolla, but so has everyone who cared to look at California, so there tends to be lots of people here on sunny days. La Jolla is an upscale area, with no house below in the millions. The beaches here are great for just a beach day, they are very nice. You have the shores, Scripps, La Jolla cove, Black's, and various other palces. There is lots of good palces to surf in La Jolla. Scripps has it days but is easily accessed so prepare to search for parking and be in a crowded lineup. Windansea is a place I do not recommend you surf unless you can absolutely rip. The localism at Windansea is renowned for it's ugliness. I have never had more problems than horrible ugly looks in the lineup, but I have heard stories of slashed tires, wax messages on cars, and other bad things going down here. Aside from the localism, the wave at Windansea is one of the best in all of the San Diego area. But again, I would say stay away from surfing there. It is a fun place to go and watch people surf when the swell is up. Black's is among my favorite spots to surf at for a few reasons. The crowd is generally smaller due to the fact that you have to make a trek down to the beach. That said, there are times when the crowd can be huge, depends on the swell and the time you go. Blacks is a nice beach to go to, it is never crowded on the actual beach. The houses on the cliffs above Blacks are among the most expensive you can find in La Jolla. I don't know, but the average price is probably around 8 million. Contrary to popular belief only the northern part of Blacks is a nudist beach, so no, you wont be seeing naked old men jogging in front of you. But incase you do want that horrendus experience, go north a bit. They only come out on sunny warm days, for obvious reasons. I have only had one problem with nudists, and it seemed to be a college student (maybe intoxicated) who was having a good time, he would come close to people walking/sitting and do stretches a few yards away in the nude. I found it funny myself, but then again, he didn't do it right by me. If you go here, stay away from right under the cliff, they do erode and there have been a few major collapses in the past year. You will be visiting La Jolla one way or another if you are living in SD, it's a nice place.
